Last night i went with Laura, Matt and John to see Trevor's show at Rumours and then we had a Gay Old Time Dancing at Desire. Good times (and funny, funny, strange weirdo times) were had by all.

Tonight I spent the better part of the evening arguing about socialized medicine with some pushy distant American aunt of mine. I didn't realize when I entered the profession I would be defending all the mistakes of every doctor, past, present and future, as well as the social system of Canada in general.

Tonight I went to EBC- the fancy social at U of M. I have not been to this since I was 21, and at 24, I felt a bit old. However I did see Matt- a very cool guy who runs the local hip hop shows and who usually goes to hard core indie shows at the Pyramid all the time- and who is at least 23. So I felt a bit better.

Too bad I'm not a man...
because if I was, I could get a free trip to Australia. And all it would take was of my sperm!

Its very odd when people die suddenly- its as though they went on vacation or something. You keep expecting them to show up at any moment as if the whole thing was a misunderstanding. How can someone be around in moment and gone the next? The only people I've ever known to die were people who were sick (either acutely or chronically) and then you have some warning- at worst case, a week at least to prepare yourself. There is just a big hole when someone is gone unexpectedly.

My cousin was killed in a car accident this morning. She was 23 and was in the last year of her nursing degree. How fucked up is this?

Today I shadowed an anethethiologist (whatever, you know, putting people to sleep during surgery) and it was amazing! I saw two procedures- the first was a bowel resection- meaning they took out about a foot and a half of someone's intestine- and the second was a laproscopic tubal ligation. Very cool- with the camera you could see all of the vessels of the abdominal cavity, and there was a probe in the uterus so it could be moved around as the surgeon needed.

On the same note- have you ever found that you can will yourself to wake up during a dream? I was having a not-very-pleasant dream one night and I partway I realized that it was a dream and I wanted to wake up. So after a few attempts of telling myself "WAKE UP WAKE UP" I did. True story.
Want to hear something bizarre? Last night, I was dreaming that I was talking to someone and during the conversation, I realized that I was having a dream. So partway through the conversation, I stopped and said " look, I think this is a dream, but why don't you meet me at Fuel tomorrow at 11 and we can continue this." I almost thought about going to Fuel this morning, and then I realized the stupidity of this.
This week has been all about adolescent psychiatry (did i spell both of those right?? they don't look right). A quote of note is:
" Mom, you fucking bitch! Come tuck me in!"
