Today we saw pictures of someone who had Gonorrhea of the eye.

AND i attended a city council meeting today regarding the status of Rapid Transit in Winnipeg. There was a plan to create an ultra-fast transit corridor which would be the closest thing the city was going to get to decent transit system- but the new mayor wants to nix it. There were a lot of people in the gallery watching the meeting and a lot of hooting and hollering when it came to support for the bill- but otherwise the entire preceeding was kind of boring. I left at lunch before hearing the outcome as they were taking FOREVER coming up with a decision.
I've just gotten an email from a colleague from the Immunology lab which said that he's enjoying reading my blog. Which is very nice- and a bit bizarre- i wasn't aware that anyone knew about it from school. Guess I'll have to be more careful about what I write. (I am a very responsible student who spends her weekends diligantly in the library learning... actually that is going to be the truth from now until our exam in November.) On that note- I'm off to learn uterine pathology- which is very gross. Not a whole lot of things gross me out- but pictures of cancerous uteri seem to do the trick.

Its Thursday and we're leaving for Calgary tonight. There's a big bus that me and some of my friends are on (along with most of the med1s who are going) and a bunch of vans and things that are driving out on their own. It would have been nice to drive out- quicker- can stop whenever you want- but the bus should be a party- and there's going to be a DVD player.
At least I'm flying BACK to Winnipeg.

I want to write about something new but my life right now is really boring and I really have nothing to say. School is intense and busy. I stayed up until 2am last night to do a kidney physiology assignment. It wasn't fun. My normal routine is:
Get up: 7am
Arrive at school: 8:30am
Classes run from 9-5, with an hour break for lunch. (Usually I do some reading.)
Get home 6pm-ish
Dinner,etc-by 7 I'm doing homework.
Usually a break at about 9 or 10 to go to the gym.
11-2am is more homework.
My life sucks.

The long weekend was nice- I was relieved to have a break from school. Its not a good sign when after the first week I need three days off- hopefully I'll be able to get into the rhythm by next week. I went to the lake for Sunday-Monday with my family and spent some family-good-times with them...mostly involving movie watching and waterskiing in the cold lake. Now its back to school and lectures.

I've been back in Winnipeg for two weeks getting used to being in a routine again. I forgot about how hard it is to come back from travelling- i spent a good part of the first week being very depressed. Now I'm okay.
This is also the first week of school, which so far has been very different from last year's first week of school. Last year there was a lot of congratulatory talks about how great it was to be in med school and a lot of talks about how smart and wonderful everyone was. This year we got a speech about how a lot of last year's class failed med 2 and how we should be studying all the time. And then we got straight into anatomy again.
This block, up until November, is Endocrinology, Reproduction, and Kidney. We're spending a lot of time in the Gross Lab this week; the cadavers are fresher than last year and smell worse. Also we are spending a lot of time near the colon which isn't pretty.
