I haven't mentioned this yet, despite having found out a few weeks ago...

I won a free trip to China!

Well, "won" is not exactly the correct statement. My medical school has an exchange program with the Shantou medical school- they have hosting spots for 2 fourth-year students. The trip is designed as a cultural experience for us, in a hospital setting. We're going to go to the hospital every day, but learn about the Chinese medical system, get involved in some Chinese medicine, maybe try acupuncture.

We had to write a letter telling why we wanted to go and hand in a CV. There was a selection committee and over 20 people applying so I assumed that I wouldn't end up getting the spot.

The best part of this arrangement is that they selected Terry to be the other student!
It is pretty much the best possible outcome for this trip.

I don't know very much about the details- I think we're going sometime in March for about 3 weeks. I also don't know very much about the city of Shantou other than it is close to Hong Kong and very hot and that (i think ) they speak Cantonese instead of Manderin.

Here's where it is...

But yes, its very exciting.

Last week I went to the International Conference of Emergency Medicine in Halifax. Twas fun!! I went with Terry, a guy in our class Jay, and many Emerg residents.
We spent a lot of time in Halifax listening to speakers, but we also went to Peggy's Cove. We also ate a lot of fish products.

I'll post pictures as soon as my computer stops being stupid.
