After hearing about the awful-ness of U-Haul, Terry and I decided to get movers to move our stuff to New Brunswick. This has been a series of disasters:
1. The movers told us initially our stuff would arrive in Saint John the 25th of June. Okay. We planned our drive out there accordingly.
2. On the road on the 20th in between Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury, we get a call from said movers. They were in Montreal, planning to make it into Saint John the next day. We would need to meet them there to pay them. Immediately. Oh yeah, they don't take visa.
3. After explaining to them that NO, we weren't willing to drive ALL NIGHT to arrive in Saint John and that we had friends to meet in Montreal, we arranged with our landlord to meet them and let them into our apartment. As for payment? They had no suggestions. None at all. When asking them about what they expected when they were early (this sort of thing must come up) you could hear the shrug on the other end. Finally, we agreed to wake up early and wire them the money in Montreal. First thing.
4. After getting to Montreal and wasting half a day in many banks, we finally wired them the money. They spent this time sitting outside our apartment in Saint John waiting for the transfer. When it finally went through, they went into our apartment, started to unload the truck, and THEN REALIZED that they had loaded the truck wrong, and that other people's stuff was in front of ours. Belonging in Newfoundland.
5. After dismissing the idea that they should just REARANGE the truck to make it work (after all, aren't they MOVERS?) their best idea was that they would drive to Newfoundland with our stuff, unload the stuff in front of it, and come back. On the 29th.
6. After a week of sleeping on the floor and eating out every night, we were very excited about the arrival of our stuff. Phoned them today- oh- actually the truck has been "broken" and they are leaving Newfoundland tomorrow. Maybe.
Sweet Jesus are we EVER going to get our stuff?? They now have our money and our stuff! Who knows if all of it is in some Newfoundland pawn shop by now??
